Camp Verde's Spider

For Verde Entertainment's annual event, Kingdom of the Spiders Reunion festival, on Saturday October 27th 2012 in downtown Camp Verde, I was asked to design a 5'x5' metal spider to be duplicated in steel then painted by local artists. The project ended due to lack of funding (a roof collapsed at a restaurant, etc) and instead the two large spiders were used to promote the Kingdom of the Spiders Reunion festival in the Fort Verde Days Parade, and were attached to a large spider web float.

The Process:

Bare Spider:
Blacksmith artist Gordon Williams cut out the design in steel.
The spiders are 5'x5' large and are designed to be bolted on to fences, exterior walls and roof tops. When mounted, they will bend to create some relief structure.

Painted Spider:
I painted the flat spider blue as a test.

The spiders and float were on display at the Kingdom of the spiders Reunion Festival in October 2012.
