Illustrating Literature:

People can combine their love of art and reading by creating an original work of art. Participants will take pages from discarded books and create a surface that they will use to create a charcoal drawing on. The drawing can either be about the book the pages are from, or from their imagination. The result will be a 12x12” ready to frame work of art that they can take home. No artistic experience is necessary, just an interest in reading and getting their hands messy.
Length: 2 -3 hours
*Teen version using classic high school English novels is available at a lesser cost using cheaper materials.

Abstract Landscape:

In this workshop, participants will learn how to paint the experience of a landscape in an abstract style with a limited color palette. By allowing the mind to let go of what it sees and what it tries to label with traditional elements (perspective, value, etc.,) the artist is free to experience the landscape without hesitation. This freedom allows someone to focus on the essential colors, movement, etc. personal to his/her experience. Participants will learn to translate that experience in abstract form on a canvas, and go home with a ready to frame work of art.
Length: 2 hours
*Alternative mixed media (charcoal and painting) version available.
