King of the Beach (Elephant Seal) Study
King of the Beach, an elephant seal pastel drawing on paper. 9 inches wide by 7.5 inches tall.
In spring of 2018, on a road trip towards the San Juan Island from Los Angeles, we pulled over to see the Elephant Seal beach as described in one of those pamphlets you see in racks. This King of the Beach greeted us with interest before he went back to his sleeping. An indescribable moment captured in pastel.
This drawing ships flat. Colors vary from screen to screen, the dominant colors on this pastel painting are black, yellow ochre and the toned light yellow paper.
Roar
Roar. Pastel on tone Paper. 9x12"
Sea lions roar; though it's hard to believe unless you see it in person. I had the opportunity to sit with this sea lion and his friends. Weary but calm, these Sea Lions slept while I drew them, though occasionally, they would roar at each other when a newcomer would disrupt their sleep. This drawing emerged from that experience.

Unimpressed - California Sea lion
Unimpressed - California Sea Lion Painting. 6 inches by 6 inches, gouache on canvas panel.
This little wildlife painting of a California Sea lion in blue reveals the attitude they may give you when you encounter them on the boardwalks of coastal Oregon. Quirky, charming, but perhaps indifferent to man, these beautiful creatures are magical as they glide through water but stumble on land.
This is an original painting created in hues of blue and red oxide contrasting against the white background. It ships flat and unframed.
Munchin' away - Sea Otter
Munchin' Away, 6x6" gouache on canvas.
Sea otters are protected and rightfully so, they are a keystone species. They keep sea urchins and other invertebrate populations down so kelp forests are not over grazed. Allowing kelp forests to continue to absorb vast amounts of carbon dioxide which helps reduce pollution. Creating a cleaner environment for all. This little painting honors the sea otter and it's role in the circle of life.
Ships flat. Colors vary from screen to screen. The dominate colors in this painting are blue, reds and beige.
