Least Chipmunk, 2016. Soft Pastel. 13x10"
Original, available unframed.
I encountered this little Least Chipmunk on a visit to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. This is not a Golden Mantled Squirrel, which is what I thought it was at first -- actually I thought it was a chipmunk, but then we were corrected into learning that most people who see the Golden Mantled Squirrel at the Rocky National Park think they are seeing chipmunks. So we assumed all little chipmunk looking creatures running around us were Golden Mantled Squirrels. But, Least Chipmunks are actually chipmunks that live in the same region and apparently run around with Golden Mantled Squirrels. The way you can tell the difference is that the a LeastChipmunk has stripes on it's face, and the Golden Mantled Squirrel does not. Otherwise they are very similar in behavior and habitat.
